Dr. Robert Portman, Creator of Satiatrim®

Dr. Robert Portman is the CEO and Chief Scientific Officer of PacificHealth Laboratories, a publicly-traded nutrition technology company, and the creator of Satiatrim®. Dr. Portman is a pioneer in discovering and developing innovative proteinbased nutritional products that stimulate specific peptides involved in appetite regulation and that activate biochemical pathways involved in muscle performance and growth. Dr. Portman holds 12 patents for nutritional inventions to improve sports performance as well as to control appetite and help in the management of Type II diabetes. He is the coauthor of two successful books, Nutrient Timing and The Performance Zone, has authored hundreds of articles in major sports and fitness magazines on the role of nutrition in improving sports performance and is a frequent guest on TV and radio as a well-known expert on weight loss. Dr. Portman also lectures on weight loss and sports nutrition at conferences and meetings across the country.

In addition to developing Satiatrim, Dr. Portman developed the first protein powered sports drink, Accelerade, that has been shown, when compared to a conventional sports drink such as Gatorade, to improve rehydration, extend endurance, decrease post-exercise muscle damage and speed recovery. PacificHealth Laboratories recently sold this technology to Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages and they have recently launched Accelerade nationally in a ready-to-drink form. Dr. Portman is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the North American Association for the Study of Obesity and the International Society of Sports Medicine.

Dr. Portman received a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Nutrition from Virginia Tech.
